TEHRAN (IQNA) –  Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam condemned the Zionist regime’s moves aimed at Judaization of Jerusalem al-Quds.

In a statement on Friday, Allam also denounced desecration of Islamic holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque by Jewish settlers with the support of the Israeli police forces, Raialyoum website reported.

He further warned censured the Israeli decision of banning the Adhan (Islamic call to prayer) at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil (Hebron) under the pretext of settlers' celebration of Purim for the Jewish people.

Allam called upon the international community to apply the international law to stop the occupation authorities from preventing religious rites in mosques and to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli attacks against Jerusalem al-Quds and its sanctities.

Israeli authorities allow settler incursions to the compound since 2003, despite repeated objections and warnings by the Palestinian religious authorities as the visits provoke worshippers of the mosque.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is the world's third-holiest site for Muslims. Jews call the area the "Temple Mount," claiming it was the site of two Jewish temples in ancient times.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. It annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move never recognized by the international community.
